SM Mall of Asia is a shopping mall to be opened on May 21, 2006 [1] (originally on August 30, 2005) and would be the Philippines' largest mall in terms of gross floor size. It is owned and operated by SM Prime Holdings, under the management of Henry Sy, a Chinese immigrant to the Philippines.

Mall of Asia is being constructed within the reclaimed lands west of Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City. It is built on 19.5 hectares of reclaimed land and has a gross floor area of 381,075 square meters. The mall is located at the southmost tip of EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue). A rotunda was constructed in the front of the mall with a huge bronze globe similar to Universal Studios. An Esplanade or walkway was constructed at the back of the mall where it served as the observation center for the world's first World Pyro Olympics in December 2005.

The mall consists of four buildings interconnected by walkways: the Main Mall, Entertainment Mall, and the North and South Carpark Buildings. One of its unique features is a 20-seater tram to make it easier for shoppers to go around. The management’s priority is to make sure shoppers will not get lost inside the mall. There will be two concierge desks—one in the Main Mall and another in the Entertainment Mall. Maps will be given out, and there will be signs aplenty. The Main Mall will include shopping and dining establishments, the food court. The South Parking building will house the SM Department store and half of the 5,000 parking spaces while the North Parking building will include the SM Hypermarket, a spacious office space and more dining areas.

The mall’s newest attraction is the Entertainment Plaza. Besides bowling and billiards facilities, the building will house 10 theaters, including a Director’s Club and the first ever IMAX theater in the Philippines. The theater, named as the SanMig IMAX Theater would also have the largest screen in the Philippines at 22 x 30 meters, similar to the height of an eight-storey building. The mall also features an Olympic sized skating rink and a science museum. The mall also provide office space. Dell International Services, a subsidiary of Dell, Inc. occupies a 13,470.5-square meter are at the second floor of north parking building of the mall.

It is now set to become the 3rd largest mall in the world, behind the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and a retail center in Beijing, China.

The mall would have opened before Christmas Day of 2005 but had been delayed because of hitches in the delivery in construction materials. Frequent rains in the last quarter of 2005 also delayed the turnover of mall space to tenants. SM Prime decided to move the opening date to March 3, 2006.

On February 27, 2006, local newspaper Manila Standard Today, reported that a team of Pasay City engineers found huge cracks underneath the structure, which was causing the structure to vibrate. When question about the inspection, the Pasay City Engineering Department has categorically denied making any statement regarding defects in the Mall of Asia. Engineer Edwin Javaluyas, Pasay City engineering officer, in his letter to SM Prime Holdings Inc., said he never stated that the city hall’s engineering department inspected the Mall of Asia on February 23,2006.

SM Prime however decided to move the opening to May 21, 2006. Jeffrey Lim, corporate information officer of SM Prime Holdings, emphasized that a rescheduling of the mall’s opening was made to give the company an opportunity to allow more tenants to open shops and denied that the change was due to structural defects.

Otakuzine Anime Magazine, in partnership with Toy Kingdom, will be
having a mini-event at the Toy Kingdom Mall of Asia this coming may 21
to coincide with TK's grand opening. Hero TV will be covering the TK
mini-event.

There'll be an art contest, a cosplay gethering, a manga lanching, and
an on-site registration for the upcoming National Cosplay Competition.

All cosplayers are invited for a Cosplay Gathering at the mini-event.
It'll be an Open-cosplay event where cosplayers could cosplay any
character that they like from any genre but we are also encouraging
you to cosplay any toy you see from Toy Kingdom (e.g. Barbie, Lord of
the Rings, Power Ranger, Mask Rider) to get a chance to win special
prizes courtesy of Toy Kingdom. We'll be awarding 3 cosplay gathering
idols (much like the H3 cosplay idol last year) and will receive toys
and gift packs worth Php2000.

Everyone is also invited to join the art contest which will take place
at 1 pm. We will be having 30 contestants to draw any toys they see on
Toy Kingdom premises. Illustration boards will be provided by us.
Bring your own materials. Only pencils, ballpens, sign pens, tech
pens, colored pencils, craypas, and crayons are allowed to be used as
medium. Other materials would not be considered. Toys and gift packs
worth Php2000 are up for grabs for the art contest.

Toy Kingdom and Otakuzine will be giving away 30 gift packs. There'll
also be a trivia contest during the mini-event and we'll be giving
away prizes for the trivia.

For those who haven't sent their registration or doesn't have the
means to send their registration for the upcoming National Cosplay
Competition, don't fret for NCC will be having an on-site registration
and pictorial at the said mini-event.

During this activity, Otakuzine would also launch its newly published
manga, OTAKU MANGA ZINE. It is a compilation of four original mangas
in one book, fit for everyone's taste. Also, we would be introducing
"Ani-Fic", and "How We Draw Manga, the Otakuzine Way."

nah, its only dangerous if you came here the last couple of months coz there's dark areas, you'd be a candidate for muggers if you happen to walk here in the night. but once the mall opens there'll be lots of guards and lights and cars so you wouldn't be mugged. As for the foundation, lets hope Henry Sy didn't overlook safety precautions or else we'll all be buried in rubble once calamity strikes....waaaa kuwaiii!!!!! x_x

papasama lang ako sa kaibigan kong taga manila doctors alam ko diyan nilipat ung school nila eh..

lets see how... for those incoming through the use of MRT or LRT drop off @ Taft station.. you can take a bus ride from there *nakalimutan kung anong sign* because SM mall of asia has been like uh... rotonda for busses.. for the pag-asa *cavite* people there will be an opening of a FX/Aircon station direct route to SM mall of asia... opening on May 21 or 20 i think..

hmm.. just stay tune for further info.. ^_^

don't know how to get there? better yet ride a cab.. ;)
