Title: Gothic culture
Description: alter egos gothic lolitas out there

ladyinpink - April 5, 2006 02:16 PM (GMT)
*Nice Chesca*

What is the Goth culture?
It is basically indefinable, because "Goth" means different things to each follower. Many adopt unusual fashions in order to separate themselves from other youth. Gordon A. Crews, associate dean of the School of Justice Studies at Roger Williams University in Bristol, CT is an investigator of what he calls the "occult" which-- in his opinion -- includes the Goth culture. He said: "It is up to the individual to define what Goth is for themselves ... The mentality is, 'I want to be left alone but I want to be seen. I want to see the shock on other peoples' faces."

ayan coz of my undying love for gerard way of my chemical romance naligaw ako sa isang goth site, i never was a goth even with the influence of my pinsan na ligaw... pero im thinking twice... prang feeling ko misunderstood ako tuloy..

kayo what do you think about goth from their fashion to their beliefs?

Rofe - April 5, 2006 08:09 PM (GMT)

=CeRaVi_CeReS= - April 6, 2006 12:59 AM (GMT)
In general, goth's definitions vary from each individual. As for me, i usually wear VictoriGoth (Victorian Gothic) style of clothings, but not mostly black coz it always depends upon my mood. While my friend is considered goth by her musical preferences (and she, as well known, wears black as always, that's why we're called Blair Witch Kids by our officemates). Katherine's band (Scarlet Tears) is also goth. I know someone who is considered goth thru his paintings. And so again, it varies.

alt12 - April 6, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
goth and rurikon pinagsama ang dalawang fave:wub: n fave :wub: ko!! i really like the combination goth's death, victorian/edwardian-esque, mizunderstood, turn to the dark side and rurikons innocent, sweet, childish approach it's so kinky amfufu doll like!!

Chibi-kun - April 6, 2006 04:39 AM (GMT)
my version of goth is mostly derived from visual kei rock 'goth' or jrock for short. I tried the baby lolita and even attempted victorian maiden but I believe I can only portray a lolita or a victorian maid better with longer hair. Thus I wear wigs for those kasi ang sobrang ikle ng bukoh ko that its really meant for VK cosplaying/dressing talaga.
and yes, I do own black clothing with chains :lol:

gothloli06 - April 7, 2006 03:55 AM (GMT)
i have been called goth because of my music, fashion and drawings. i am, actually, a gothic lolita. ^^
my clothing style is black and white or black and red or black, and i always dress in the elegant gothic lolita style.

ladyinpink - April 7, 2006 08:35 AM (GMT)
Where do goths find their clothes?? is Emily strange a goth??

=CeRaVi_CeReS= - April 7, 2006 08:45 AM (GMT)
Emily Strange is goth.

@ gothloli - if you're the one i saw in DevArt... i say i liked your deviations... browsed it through gloomywanderer (evil twin ko)

sexylexy - April 7, 2006 08:47 AM (GMT)
may ask ako..
bakit pag dating sa goth fashion
e2 ung number one rule

"YOU MUST NOT LOOK CUTE"

lahat ng friends ko yan unang sinasabi kpg mag goth costume :D

gothloli06 - April 7, 2006 02:30 PM (GMT)
@=ceravi_ceres=
im sorry, but that isn't me... i don't have an active deviantart account -_-*
photobucket, yes, deviantart, no.

@ladyinpink
yes, she is goth... she's popular around most goths anyway... Emily Strange, ne?
as for clothes, i don't think there is any particular clothing shop for goth clothes but i can look around anyway. usually it's putting together different sorts of clothes in your own unique style. but it is usually to be black predominantly. and then the eyeliner that's all. personally i shop around and put the clothes together myself. it can range from normal black shirt, black jeans and black chucks (whenever i feel boyish) or black skirt, black top and boots for normal days. it really depends... ^^

@sexylexy
i do believe that is a common misconception. contrary to popular belief, it is okay for goths to look cute. hence, gothic lolitas. most prefer to look strange or "weird" (weird is relative), but cute is pretty okay; it's just not as seen. i mean, if your outfit is cute, then... well, it's cute. most cringe, but it's not hated or anything.
it's like smiling.
number one rule among goths is to express and live the dark side of yourself, and to be yourself.

+N.C+ - April 7, 2006 05:15 PM (GMT)
Personally, I have that little side of me that hates goth to the max - but don't take as an attack to you guys or somethin', it's just well when you meet goth people, I'm generalizing lol , but anyways most goth people that ive met are uh ... too gothic? You talk to them and all they talk about is the occult, who their favourite goth band is, what next victorian goth dress there going to get, they love their dolls, cutting, wear eye shadow - you know, it's like - can't you talk about anything else?! I don't know, it's just all the gothic people I've met are like those and some of them havent "really" been influenced by gothic culture - knowing who Malice Mizer does not make you goth and heck, the only goth band they actually know would be malice =.=;;

But there's that other part of me that treats them as equals, not goths just people - you'd think it's weird when you see me talking to a bunch of goths wearing a jersey and baseball cap, hahaha.

Chibi-kun - April 8, 2006 06:50 PM (GMT)
I kinda feel the same way as +N.C+ does at times, but nowadays the goth fad seems to be fading as the new trend of Emo kids seems to be popping up everywhere.

as for clothing, dito sa America, Hot Topic and Torrid seems to be the number #1 destination for punk and gothic clothing. I dont shop there since I believe their sell outs and namely for the fact I dont exactly enjoy the company of the people who shops there. So I make my own clothes or put them together.
and If I have cash to spend, I order from online stores in Japan. Such as stores that carry Union Jack, H.Naoto or Sex Pots Revenge. Or through a ebay store called Refuse to be Usual.

jikury_22 - April 9, 2006 04:05 AM (GMT)
I do appreciate GOthiC...but i'm a fashionista...i like to mixed different clothes!!

ang alam ko gothic.....fashion staRted in japan...
and karaniwang mukhang mga snobbish...
yun lang!!

ladyinpink - April 9, 2006 04:44 AM (GMT)
@gothloli
wow.. you know we're having a 2nd yuri photoshoot, it's theme is gothic lolita, it would be cool if you'll be there ^^

No, just no. Heck even viskei didn't start in japan - the name did but not the style.

=CeRaVi_CeReS= - April 10, 2006 01:52 AM (GMT)
@ N+C - siguro yung mga nakakausap mo is hardcore goth na... not all goths are into occults y'know... yung iba dresser lang like me... some are just inclined to their music... mga ganon ba... but i do respect your thoughts...

@ gothloli - gomen...

@ sexylexy - being goth doesn't mean you have to be "mukhang dugyot" or "mukhang bumaha ng luha" (coz of smeared eyeliners)... something like that... but if that's their perception, i would not like to debate on it...

gothloli06 - April 10, 2006 04:06 AM (GMT)
@ladyinpink
i would love to. ^^ where would it be and on what date?

@+N.C+
i know how you feel... there's a poser goth in my school just like that... and she gives me a bad name. >.< i get affected by whatever she does coz what she does they compare to me. how very annoying!
i get annoyed with those types coz my mom sees them then she looks at me and seriously consideres monitoring my clothes and my fashion sense and sending me to a psych again. not pleasant. >.< i didn't like my last visit, i don't think i will like the next one either.
it's just like... you don't have to be constantly depressed, you don't have to constantly talk about the occult, you don't have to always cut yourself... we've got lives too but it seems like we don't when some are like that. i'm not generalizing; i've met goths like me who aren't like that. there are just some few who are. maybe the ones you talk to are really the hardcore types... either they're hardcore or they're trying to hard.
btw, are you from US? ^^
and i do respect your opinions and your thoughts. very interesting to hear them. ^^

@chibi-kun
from where in the US are you? ^^
goth/ic was ever a trend? :blink: i never knew that... *ignorant*
hmm... im interested. what type of people exactly shop at the sell-out stores of the great corporate america? ^^

@jikury_22
uhm, maybe you're referring to the Elegant Gothic Lolita style? that term was coined by Mana-sama, so hmm...

@+N.C+ (again ^^)
Sir +N.C+, i need your help. Since Mana-sama officially coined the terms "Elegant Gothic Lolita and Elegant Gothic Aristocrat" and such, would that mean they "started" in Japan? i always get confused with origins of anything <_<

You know your probably older than me anyways, hardcore goths? *shrugs* Maybe, but I know what you guys mean so no worries. As for mana, hell no could he have started gothic aristrocrat or gothic lolita, maybe he publisized it but not created it - I'd be shocked if he did though, that'd be a first.

gothloli06 - April 10, 2006 10:26 AM (GMT)

ahh sou desu. ^_^
so confused with origins... and yet i take history as a subject. how ironic >.<
anyway,
hmm... yes that would be surprising if Mana-sama did create the whole concept by himself.... maybe some concepts of it only, ne? i know he's listed in wikipedia.org as officially coining the term... ^^
uhmm.... not being rude or anything, but how old are you? becuase i think im younger. ^^

Gibs - April 10, 2006 12:10 PM (GMT)
At first medyo nawweirdohan ako sa mga Goths especially their faces nakakataas ng balahibo, medyo nakakatakot sila. Pero nung nagtagal OK naman pala. They maybe dark but their Elegant. Maganda rin. At isa pa, bihira lng ako makakita ng ganyan. Wala d2 sa Gapo eh. ^ ^;

jikury_22 - April 10, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)
Black n white!!!

yang ang color ng mga goth...

pero...ako...nahahaluhan ng RED

gothloli06 - April 10, 2006 01:45 PM (GMT)
@gibs
hai hai! Elegant... scarily elegant. ^^
medyo konti nga ang mga goths dito sa Pilipinas, period. =_=
but oh well... the community will grow in time. ^^

@jikury_22
black lang dude... ^^ pero hinahaluan ng white and red... ^^

Gibs - April 10, 2006 01:50 PM (GMT)
@jikury
Red? Alam ko Black & white lng ah. Teka mero nabang red? Ibig sabihin may blue na rin? hehehe :P

@gothloli

>.<) so yun... nababawasan lalo yung bilang namin dito... pero okay lang. the community will grow in time. ^^

+N.C+ - April 10, 2006 03:22 PM (GMT)
D*mn, I had thsi really long post till my comp froze - so I lost it all and I can't be bothered to re-think what I said, so here it goes - I'm 16 gothloli, Goth can come in any color - can I say a gothic lolita? Hell yes. - I'd love to see you Ceres in your "gothic outfit" - No goth scene in the Philippines, it's sad but true - As for goths being scary? No way josse, there kinda funny (I have a weird sense of humours :D)

Chibi-kun - April 11, 2006 01:19 AM (GMT)
@Gothloli - theres a huge gothic scene in the US which is now being taken over by emo and punk bands. And their practically everywhere. Thats what they sell in the sellout big corporate stores here. Namely Hot Topic, where they cater to 'everyonesneeds of being goth, punk and whatnot' but alot of people who shop there tends to be the one with money. Yes, EGl and Goth is an expensive hobby but I believe that ever since they started carrying CURE magazines, that they've been taking EGL elements into their store which just annoys me. I dont know why, but it just does.

I believe EGL/Goth is something creative and should be done through ones creativity and not just buy a whole new outfit from a big store like that and say, "I'm goth" or "i'm a jrocker" or even "I'm egl. I like mana" and stuff like that. I may just be being bias and whatnot. It's just that I've seen this happen everywhere, where something becomes a trend and you can no longer go outside of the house dressed to something similar to that and be called a punker (this is why I avoid dressing jrocky or egl outside the house) because people will label you goth. I have a very varied style of clothing and I refuse to be labelled onething and kung ano ano lang naman. Theres just far too many 'posers' who follows the trend. And a store like Hot Topic (please disregaurd the fact that I'm totally targetting this store, by all means, shop there and i'm not telling anyone not to anyway :lol: its just a prime example) where they cater to such trends to get more money. They've stired away from their 'goth look' that practically anyone can go in there and throw something together and say 'i'm goth'

Rarity ang goth/egl look sa Pinas like in anyother country that isnt touched by such trends. Thats why I was pretty shock to find out about fellow jrock fans in the Philippines nga eh. But I'm sure pag uwe ko, that me and my sis will be turning a few heads and people will be making way for us or just stare at our weirdness.

=CeRaVi_CeReS= - April 11, 2006 03:39 AM (GMT)
@ NC - tnx... but you might be disappointed to see that i'm not as "hardcore" as expected... and i don't usually stick with the B/W/R color... in fact, i do wear light pink tops or some other colors (as long as they're not neon... ewww!!!)... but as long as they're Victorian inspired... plus i'm most oftenly seen wearing jeans or black pants... so nothing unusual i think... but here in the Philippines... if you already noticed... most of the people who wears black are the "rakistas"... posers or hardcore or skateboarders, it doesn't matter...

ladyinpink - April 11, 2006 06:54 AM (GMT)

iuupdate kta ^^ nsa yuriness thread nman un! :lol: this may

Hnd naman ^ ^; Hnd ako takot sayo. ^_^ Peace! Dati takot ako.

BTW , bakit Black & White ang ginagamit nilang color sa mga damit nila? Any connections? At bkit parati nakamake-up sila na parang pale looking or Vampire look? Just asking curios lng. ^_^

Emo people are funny, but most of the people I know of, like emo music but aren't actually emo themselves, there's not into the "fad" but like they've been influenced by it, unknowingly or somethin'. Oh and chibi-kun, you'll think it's okay that people stare at you all the time when you come to the Philippines but trust me, you'll get PISSED after awhile. Oh and I barely shop for clothes, just bought my self a nice hoodie though <3

@Ceres : Oh the "rakista" people? Well you know, there's that "rock fad" going on in the Philippines and everyone wants to become "rock" but they only like emo or pang-po-pogi bands like HALE >_> I'd love to see someone blast out some blue's tunes though. As for Black aristrocrat influenced clothes, that'll be hard to find in the Philippines unless you want to get it sewed by people and pay a hefty sum for it.

gothloli06 - April 11, 2006 01:43 PM (GMT)
@+N.C+
cool... ^^ 16!
well! i learned something new today! ^^ always good to learn something new. ^^ but then... it's inside that matters again, huh?

@chibi-kun
Hot topic? ive heard of that shop...
interesting. the smell of corporate america... oh well. they have... close to 0 stores that cater to the needs of the goths and the EGLs here in the Phils.
yeah, i do go to ukay-ukay and divisoria to buy blouses and skirts then put them together... that way it's really your outfit.
im actually shocked myself when a person says that they know a person who likes Jrock or who likes Jrock, period... =_= but it will grow...

@sora
why don't you? ^^ my friends and i do... of course you get the occasional remarks(i just got called a witch kanina in Mega), but ignore them. ^^

@chie/ceravi_ceres
kahit saan naman meron... ^^ K2 sa glorietta madami; dun ako pumupunta ngayon. kakagaling namin nina baka-saru ng divisoria kanina at ang raming namin nahanap doon... sobra... pati sa galleria (kireii) meron din... it depends lang naman how you put it together. ^^

lagi rin ako inaasar ng mga kaibigan... parang patay daw ako o pupunta sa patay. ^^ tapos tinawagan din akong witch kanina sa Mega... haha!!

@gibs
hmm... never thought of that. pero i think white because it has been the color of innocence and purity and light while black has been the color of death, the fallen, and the darkness (plus its a heavy color). ewan ko kung yun yung dahilan pero... thats what i think.
as for the vampiric look... eh to... goth is appreciating the dark side naman diba, and vampires are the fallen... and plus, they're pretty to look at (once you get past the fangs). and i dunno... maraming nagsasabi na "bawal cute!" O.o
pero gothic lolita style dapat cute na elegant na ewan eh... so... go figure.
heh? natakot po kayo? ._. sowiii....

i missed your first post. =_= i am blind!
yeah you do get pissed after a while but when you get used to it (after a few years of it =_=) you find it's easy to ignore them... unlike some who come up to you and say "hi miss" or "witch." lol. but oh well :P
surprisingly, though, there are a few good seamstresses who make good clothes for a reasonable price... you just have to supply the tela. ^^ thats what im gonna do for my lolita stuff and some others. or you can just put it together ^___^ but then for boys... hmm... that may be a bit more expensive. :mellow:
as for yesterday... yeah, filipino hospitality alright. ^^; but at least they say something now... before... they just... stare :blink:

@topic
waaaahhh alter ego gothic lolita? lolx i am a lolita/aristocrat my dear. :)although i'm only neither gothic lolita, sweet lolita, gothic or punk aristoctrat....well the world of the gothic lolita and goths has a slight difference with eachother.....lolitas and aristocrats actually tend to be formal. I mean goths are modern....since lolitas are really based on the victorian era.....................I mean there are also lolitas that enjoy blood and other goth stuff...but not just ou'tas much....unless you're a gore lolita which is totally hardcore with goth

@gothloli
ei!!!! sabi ko na nga ba di ka mawawala dito!!!! well yes people just stare remember yesterday? people stare...i mean i dont blame them but....its our life walang pakialamanan mine is mine & yours is yours....some people just doesnt understand....

@ sexylexy
well just coz ur goth doesnt mean you have to be scary. i know its just the appeal but you cant blame some people find goths cute. i mean you can wear h bnpink and still be called goth just by lookin at you...

@chie and ceravi
if you're lookin for lolitaor goth stuff they're every where. try raiding your moms closet. or if not then you can find a lot in divisoria, in kireii sa gallle, or any party clothes stores also one of the places to go are in ballet shops. they have good stockings...also in sari sari they have potential lolita clothes there.......in divisoria theres a place that could also make bonnets perfect for lolitas.....

gothloli06 - April 12, 2006 05:07 AM (GMT)
@bakasaru
haha... you guessed right. ^^ i taught you well hahaha!! :P wag mo akong batukan!
yes... my apprentice :P haha!
pero tama... goth isn't just clothes, its the way you carry it too.
and tama, di na alter-ego lolitas, lolita na talaga!
