Cosplay Contest

Every year, many convention visitors look forward to the Cosplay Contest, where fans dress up as teir favorite science fiction and fantasy characters. The crowds flock to see blue or green skin, androids, Jedi, Sith, Federation officers, and in some cases, even vehicles!

This year, the Cosplay Contest will be held during the Masquerade Ball, at 6PM on July 16, 2006.

Costume Ball Cosplay Contest Mechanics

1. There are two (2) categories in the Cosplay Contest: Ball Attire and Science Fiction/Fantasy:
a. Contestants of the Ball Attire category should be in formal attire (Males: historical military, historical formal attire, tuxedo etc.; females: historical ball gowns, etc). Final eligibility of the Ball Attire contestants will be determined by the Royalty during the Parade of Ball Cosplay Contestants.
b. Contestants of the Science Fiction/Fantasy Cosplayers may portray any character, creature, object or vehicle from any of the fandoms represented by the New Worlds Alliance Member Groups. Contestants may also opt to portray characters from other live action science fiction or fantasy movie or television show. Costumes which have been awarded "Best Costume" in the previous New Worlds Conventions are disqualified from the contest. Video game and anime character costumes are disqualified from the contest.

2. All Cosplayers are encouraged to pre-register before the event. The deadline for pre-registration is Saturday, 15 July 2006. To register, send an email to cosplay@newworlds.ph with the following information:
a. Name
b. Gender
c. Age
d. Email address
e. Category to join (ball or science fiction/fantasy)
f. Character to cosplay
g. For the science fiction/fantasy category, world/fandom from which the characters are
h. For the ball category, period from which the costumes are
i. Photo of your character

3. Cosplay contestants should be 16 years of age or older. They must be prepared to be in costume for at least 3 hours, so comfortable costumes are encouraged.

4. All cosplay contestants must be in or near the Rockwell Tent at least twenty (20) minutes before the parade. Non-participation in the parade means the contestants will be automatically eliminated. All cosplay contestants are encouraged to remain in the Powe Pllant Mall at least one (1) hour before the Costume Ball.

5. During the parade, all cosplay contestants should try to greet the Royalty in accordance with their character. More detailed instructions will be given just before the Parade. The Royalty may converse with the cosplay contestant.

6. Costumes must not be gory, messy, or obstructive to the flow of people in the event. Real weapons and exploding, breaking or harmful props are not allowed.

7. The judges’ decision is final and cannot be appealed.

8. Prize details to follow.

9. Criteria for judging is as follows:
Attire: 40%
accuracy, craftsmanship, creativity
Presence: 30%
stage presence, projection
Eloquence: 20%
wit, charm, in-character dialogue
Audience Impact: 10%

May cosplay yata, pero ang alam ko strictly no anime and video games characters. Mga sci-fi and fantsy characters lang yata pwede. e.g. star wars, lord of the rings, etc. ^^
