Title: What makes a cosplayer a cosplayer?
batella - January 30, 2006 09:45 AM (GMT)
^_^
Kayo.....?
Wow-----lupet!
Midori03 - January 30, 2006 11:05 AM (GMT)
agree aq sau....
kz ung iba cosplay lng kz cnasabi dali ng costume...
kaya un... mas maganda cguro kung makikita mo sa sarili mo ung kinocosplay mo.... kz dba... parang Hello?? cnu ka... kz wla sa kilos mo or something like that.. baztah... kailangan gusto mo hindi dahil gusto mo.. dapat may mga reasons din na tlagang katangap tangap... reason mo "dali kz ng costume eh" Reject!
Michy - January 30, 2006 02:36 PM (GMT)
Kurt Ogawa - February 8, 2006 11:44 AM (GMT)
i don't know about u guys but from what I observe from the other cosplayers as long as you love the things ur doing why hesitate? even u don't get a prize or be on the top lists...as long as u feel great and proud of the character u portray...cge lang...db?.. -_- .
what i hate most in cosplay is that someone or somebody will try to harass u..as if kagandahan ang costume nila,ne?.. <_<
anything new here?...

^_^ Yeah. I agree.
Well, for me though, i'd say it's not the costume, it's the confidence ^_^
Maganda man ung pagkagawa ng costume mo, kung hindi kaya ng isang tao dalhin ung character na pino-portray nya, it won't work IMO.
^_^

Agree po ako dun. But for us newbies (well, i'm not really a newbie, but cguro 1st kong ittry na rumampa sa stage, for i still dunno what character) could you please give us some pointers para po naman di kami ma-OP or maging alien pagdating sa event? I might portray as Sakura Shinguji of Sakura Wars. Onegai???
makoto-chan - February 8, 2006 01:35 PM (GMT)
I think it doesn't really matter. I mean cosplay title or what, you are still cosplaying right? I mean as long as you're passionate about what you're wearing and the character you are doing. It sounds ok.
Saori Saga - February 8, 2006 01:41 PM (GMT)
kung sino man ang caharacter n i-cosplay mo e dapat e maging ikaw yun , d lng naman about d' costume ang pag-cocosplay , about rin s attitude/image . dapat kaya mong dalin kung ano/sino ang kino-cosplay mo. and ang pianaka mahalaga e nag-eenjoy k na hindi nakakasakit ng ibang tao ^_^
Yume - February 8, 2006 03:20 PM (GMT)
Ako, i think the determination and passion that comes when you really use the best of your craft, resources.. to be as true a possible to the character to be portrayed..not necessarily having the right looks, body type etc..cause I think when it comes to cosplay competitions, looks(or the attractiveness of the person) really is a big factor(well, that is if the person isn't coming as a monster..then the critical factor there would be..uh,ugliness?er,scariness?hehe) :P
what i meant was, pretty cosplayers usually become the winners..just because they're pretty..well,that shouldn't be the factor that makes them great cosplayers
anyway, that's what i think
christian - February 8, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
bsta try to be the character itself!!
that wud be the key to be a cosplayer!!
even if na simple or complicated ung costume
na sa pagdadala mo na un!! ^_^
taintedpurple - February 8, 2006 06:46 PM (GMT)
Para sa akin, magpakatotoo ka, and portray the character na kinocosplay mo.
At self-confidence na rin ^^
yukino99 - March 3, 2006 11:19 AM (GMT)
wag mong pansinin ung iba...kahit sabihin nilang nde bagay sau ung char, nde mo kamukha....anu ba care nila ryt?? eh gusto mo icosplay ung char eh...
Yuu-Ichi - April 28, 2006 03:13 AM (GMT)
oracle - April 28, 2006 12:05 PM (GMT)
Ikanga nasa attitude na ng cosplayer yan. Every one is their own umm...person. Importante nagsasaya ka, dbale kung sampu kayong parehas ung character, may sarili kang persona to carry that character.
Kung saan ka masaya dba ^^ thats all that matters.
Then again, this words i said have been repeated in several versions all over XD
trohngskill - April 29, 2006 05:27 AM (GMT)
regardless of wat ur cosplaying or the character ur portraaaaaayiiiinnng eh nasa sa iyo na un kung susundin mu ba ung character.. err sampol na lng.. pano kung suplado ung character?or snob? or manyak? matutuwa pa ba ang mga pipols? hindi db? kya i think its a matter of choice... but anyways.. just njoy..njyo..njoy..oh btw hav fun
Yuu-Ichi - April 29, 2006 02:15 PM (GMT)
Di naman necessarily ipoportray yung role na yung (kung ano pa man yun) out of stage. Neah =^.^=
@ trohngskill
Siyempre may limitasyon naman yun. Ang level nun dapat panatilihin lang sa pagcocosplay, no more, but less can be :P Saka sa cosplay, dapat play safe lang. Walang rude and offensive language or gestures.
Setsuna31 - April 29, 2006 04:34 PM (GMT)
Kahit hindi naman... at least you're enjoying the cosplay competition...
UnfAdinG_sakUri_bLosSOm - May 4, 2006 03:57 PM (GMT)
Well I guess to make a better cosplayer you should need to acquire immediatley the character that you're portraying. You need to feel "attach" to the character. To make it a lot more easier you need to choose a character that's more closely to your personlity. In that way it will not be difficult potray the character...hehehe....but I guess cosplayers want challenges so they pick characters that have strong tense of attitude :P
junichi - May 14, 2006 12:26 PM (GMT)
you have to be balance every time you step that stage :P
and always enjoy have fun wag kang mahihiya dahil sandaling oras lang
ang kasiyahan na yan at matatagalan pa bago mo ulet magawa yan.
hitomi_kanzaki1719 - May 18, 2006 12:18 PM (GMT)
cuz sila lang may lakas loob nagrumampa in anime clothes...
for me a cosplayer has a great courage to be himself/herself...at kayang gawin ang gusto natin...
matatapang taung mga cosplayer ...saka totoo..
we do what we think is fun...
not like other people..
a cosplayer has to be brave and confident in order to cosplay
and dapat it is out of free will..and for fun dapat....
eiji_hatsuyuki - May 25, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
what makes a cosplayer a cosplayer?
the mere fact that he/she cosplays his/her favorite character(or kung sino man ang matipuhan nya) with such pride and courage.
the mere fact na bagay sa kanya yung costume.
the mere fact na gumagastos ng malaki ang cosplayer for his/her costume to make it presentable.
the idea na there are those from so far away na dumadayo pa ng Manila/makati para umattend ng con.
now that's what makes a cosplayer a cosplayer.

I've played all of those. They're easy roles for me, and they're fun.
The opposite is a challenge for me. I have to temporarily lose a hundred IQ points to play
Hideki. :P
I cosplay for my own enjoyment. Anyone else's is incidental. ;)
And now, back on topic:

@sir mike
i like that idea of yours na ang cosplayer ay the elite among the market vanguards. hehehe.
oft:kaw yung kasama nung Toguro dati di ba nung g2con? ehehehe. kinakamusta ka nung tohguro. sabihin ko sali sya dito.
pero siguro...
what makes me a cosplayer is that i made cosplaying a big part of my life. kagaya ng sabi ni sir mike, i choose the costume i want, i cosplay what i want. just so i could find that sense of contentment.
wantan - May 25, 2006 08:43 AM (GMT)

I think what makes a cosplayer a cosplayer is the way he/she carries and portrays the character he/she is cosplaying... Kasi, even though you have the great looks and all pag hindi mo naman dinadala yung character's personality, parang balewala din ang pagcocosplay kasi you'll just be like the character externally and physically but you don't channel his spirit at all. Anyway, ako naman, I cosplay for fun, and I don't really mind not joining competitions. What matters is that I see those people who love that character I'm cosplaying having fun too and not dismayed and disappointed.

one word...
the PASSION...
the passion for the thing you do..
gothIc_chIck_503 - July 2, 2006 12:51 PM (GMT)
for me... it would be the weirdness and creativity of the cosplayer... that has a three fold effect on the audience... ;)

The Hunger to cosplay... ^_^
polence - July 20, 2006 06:35 AM (GMT)
for me... siguro medyo extreme na to... pero ito yung 'personal' guidelines ko before I consider someone as a true blue blooded cosplayer
Experiencewise:
1. Already cosplayed 3 or more times with 3 different costumes
2. Already experienced making their costume from scratch. With minimal purchase of parts and help from family or friends or any professional service
3. Already attended sleepless in an event to cosplay. Due to costume making all night.
Costume-making-wise:
1. You pricked your fingers tips so much it hurts, in sewing your own costume.
2. Burned yourself one too many times with glue gun
3. You have your fingertips stained and body parts stuck together with greeco
4. The sides of your fingernails looks dirty having paints and/or glue from paper maché
Resources Knowlege-wise:
1. Know at least 3 other wig sources besides the departments stores
2. Know at least 2 sources of rubber sheets
3. Know at least 3 sources of buckles and studs
4. Know at least 3 sources beads and gems
5. Know at least 5 fabric and material sources
6. Know at least 3 shops with leather/leatherette
7. Know at least 2 shops that can make costumes
7. Know at least 2 shops that can make props or place to buy them
When you see a costume:
1. You immediately notice and appreciate the way it was made and try to figure out how it was made
2. You will immediately try to identify the materials used
3. You have a good sence of recognition of costumes made by hand from a costume professionally comissioned
Reasons you do this (not in any order):
1. For fun
2. To mingle with friends
3. You LOVE this hobby

What makes a cosplayer a true-blooded good cosplayer?
aside from the technicalities previously mentioned, for me it is more than the person's attitude or the character's similarity with ones personality.
a good cosplayer gives justice to the character he/she is portraying.
just a few tips:
first, he should chose a character who has the same complexion and physique as his. <this applies for non-monster character portrayals>
second, he acts the way the character acts. it doesn't matter if you don't have the same personality. as long as you can imitate the character very well, you can get away with it! ^_^
third, you take part in the costume-making procedure. a good cosplayer makes sure that the costume comes out the way it is intended to be.
fourth, confidence is a major factor. a cosplayer should be boosting with confidence , both inside and out. a good cosplayer should feel and look good
last but not the least, a good cosplayer has the guts to say upfront any comment or critique they have with the person involved; neither are they hesitant to give compliments because a true-blooded cosplayer is able to recognize a job well-done. B)
robertics15 - August 26, 2006 02:00 PM (GMT)
What makes a Mecha cosplayer:
1.) strong legs ( you'll be forced to stand for long periods; sitting down usually wrecks the costume )
2.) malaking pasensya sa mga bata ( victim k ng mga kids who tend to get mischievous; they have the tendency to kick or punch you in the event )..."me hates them"
3.) well regulated sweat glands( you'll sweat, really sweat in the event. una, irritating. tpos, medyo bumabawas ang discomfort, finally, wala ng discomfort. bkt? your totally drained. lam nyo b? sa isang event I drank 10 bottles of c2 without the call of bathroom breaks)
karlonne - August 26, 2006 06:51 PM (GMT)
for me i want to prove my self na mas masarap na pinaghihirapan ang costume kaysa sa nagpagawa
