umm.... dear, can you post a picture please? So that I can advice you better on the procedure.^_^

Some cosplayers just buy existing helments then just expand the mask from there. One cosplayer even paper mached an entire one, with a styro ball as the base. One instead of paper mache, used mansilya and sement for the entire helmet, the front and back part are joined by a hinge (bisagra)

Easy way
1. Buy a cheap soldier helmet at a toy store, then just expand from there buy sticking foam rubber sheet pieces on it.
2. First piece is an egg shape like piece for the front/face of the helmet 1 foot in diameter (from the middle of the big part to the small part), then put "V" shape cuttings on the sides for the bigger side and smaller side for angling to the shape of the helmet and the chin. Cut end result to even out the edges. Put a line of 5mm holes on the helmet using a heated nail to the portion you are attaching the rubber sheet, then stick a foam sheet under the helmet just under those holes. Don't for get to clean the nail after each hole. Then stick the front part on top of the helmet. The line of holes should be .5 inch away from the edge of the foam sheet, so that it's descrete.^_^
3. Then for the back piece (to cover your neck and/or nape), cut a piece like a big and thick "smile line", then same procedure as above.
4. From there you can modify it.
5. Use mansilya on the adjoining parts of the helmet and rubber to smoothen.
6. Paint the rubber sheet with white glue, several coatings, for smoother look.
7. Paint to finish.

I advice that you practice the pattern first with paper, before using the rubber sheet.

Harder way
1. Have a maker in Divisoria (I personally preffer is the Feather Shop) Make you a wire frame base of the shape that you helmet is close to. Or if you are experienced enough/brave enough, make it yourself. :P
2. Then paper mache the wire frame.
3. Smoothen the paper mache, by sand papering and/or mansilya.
4. Modify the design from there.
5. Paint
6. Stick foam and fabric inside of the mask for insulation.

Hope that helps^_^
