Title: Cosplay in the P.I
CelestialShadow19 - September 9, 2006 04:26 AM (GMT)
Hi there well im fairly new to this site, i already posted in the introductions section and well this may seem like a very stupid question but has cosplay really caught on in popularity in the Philippines? I was there 5 years ago and was in Manila and don't recall ever hearing about any cosplay events there at the time. Then again i recall that i could barely wear shorts without someone thinking it was taboo lol so this seems kinda shocking to me that cosplay would be accepted now. I'm a half breed so my mom is full blooded but my father is american (go figure) and though I have been there many times and i know anime is popular there ( i remember last time i went i bought like 10 gundam models =P ) but never once did I see cosplay or anything even remotly close. So if someone can enlighten me on the subject it would be most appriciated. Take care everyone!

[B][FONT=Arial][SIZE=7][COLOR=purple] I am also a half breed , half filipino half japanese, well Im also a new member in this org. but there was something realy special about cosplaying, It was an art, no more than an art, its a passion, where you can expres your self by bringing to life something that is living inside your heart. When I was a child I used to watch anime (up to present), until I realize that there is something this anime characters wants to show and express, then that motivation started knoking in me, most of all when you know that that character has a very similar siuation from you. I have cosplayed Kaname Chidori in theatro marikina it was my first. My feeling was increadible, I have actually bringed kaname to life. It was more than a thousand medals. hehe, hope I helped..

Just to give you an idea how popular it is here....
*thinks* hmm.... five years ago... 2001.... during that time, the cosplay bug was just starting to grow... I think it's barely one or two (4 the most) events/conventions that catered to cosplays that year. *please do correct me if I am wrong* I think the bug really caught up year 2003, during that time I'm already starting to cosplay, I think there was around 5 conventions that year already. For year 2004, there was almost one cosplay event every month, and more came for 2005. Now it's 2006, there is almost 1 or 2 cosplay events or conventions catering to cosplays every month.
So... I think it's really safe to say that cosplay has a VERY good following here in the Philippines .^_^
Welcome to PinoyCosplay!XD
